Counting Down to the New Season

Our new season starts on Monday 24 March, and the first few weeks offer a great mix of fun, inspiration and a little friendly competition.
We begin with our popular Knockout Evening. Images go head-to-head and members decide which progresses to the next round until a single winner remains. This year we’re adding a loose theme: “Things that have two eyes.” That could be people, animals, street shots or wildlife – plenty of scope while keeping comparisons fair. NB Photoentry is now open for up to 3 of your images and images can be used later for competitions too.
Our Awards Evening follows, celebrating last season’s successes. We’ll also include a short look at how AI might critique photographs, which should spark some interesting discussion.
The first competition of the year, The Bob 1 PDI, will be judged by Alan Lomakin CPAGB AFIAP BPE4* on Zoom. The theme is “The Human Trace” – images that suggest the presence or impact of people, but without anyone actually in the frame.
For the AGM, we’ll keep the business brief and then enjoy a presentation of images from the members’ trip to Venice.
We then welcome Ian Howard on Zoom for a talk on the philosophy of photography – an evening about thinking more deeply about what, why and how we photograph.
Finally, we’ll have an “In the Style Of…” evening. Members are invited to create images inspired by well-known photographers, followed by a relaxed discussion of the results.
A lively start to the season – we hope to see you there.
